Who we are
María Ángeles Luengo Martín
She is a Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela occupying the chair of Personality and Psychological Assessment and Treatment in the Department for Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology. Additionally she leads the Research Unit on Prevention and Treatment of Behaviour Problems and since 1982 she has coordinated the GI-1416 Research Group of the University of Santiago de Compostela, which focuses its research on behaviour problems in children and teenagers and the evaluation of prevention and treatment programmes aimed at them. She has advised many students who did their doctoral research on this field and has been the main researcher of many research projects on drug use and antisocial behaviour founded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Spanish National Plan on Drugs and the Galician Autonomous Government. Moreover, she coordinated the development, implementation and evaluation of the “Construyendo Salud” Programme. The results of these researches led to many articles in national and international scientific magazines.

Jorge Sobral Fernández
He is a Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela occupying the chair of Social Psychology. He leaded and/or collaborated in many research projects and has been thesis advisor of many students of the University of Santiago de Compostela who did their doctoral research in the field of Legal Psychology and Criminology. He gained teaching experience at the Psychology Faculty and the Criminology Institute of the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Luis Fernández Ríos
He is Professor for Personality, Assessment and Psychological Treatments at the Psychology Faculty of the University of Santiago de Compostela. He leaded several research projects on the prevention of drug use, antisocial behaviour and violence in the family environment and took part in many others. Currently, he is devoted to issues related to social pathology (psychology of corruption), healthy organizations (mobbing), psychology of religion and history and the present situation of prevention sciences. He is also interested in the classic philosophical basis of invulnerability and other related concepts. He published several works on all these issues.

Estrella Romero Triñanes
She is Professor for Personality, Assessment and Psychological Treatments at the Psychology Faculty of the University of Santiago de Compostela. She collaborated in numerous research projects dealing with drug use and antisocial behaviour at a national and regional level. In two research projects financed by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science she managed the development and evaluation of the “EmPeCemos” Programme, which is a multi-component intervention on behaviour problems during childhood. One of her main interests is the identification of risk and protection factors and mechanisms involved in behaviour problems, especially those related to personality. She published many works on these topics in national and international scientific magazines.

María A. Muñoz Cadavid
She is a Professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she teaches subjects related to the field of Special Educational Needs and Psychoeducational Intervention. She is member of the Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry and the Galician Association of Mental Health and has a large experience in issues related to educational needs (handicaps, ethnic minorities, problematic behaviour) and health education. She worked as a Psychologist in the fields of Mental Health and Family Planning and taught courses on related topics to professionals of the Health System. Similarly, she collaborated in many research projects dealing with antisocial behaviour, prevention of drug use, school failure and special education.

José Antonio Gómez Fraguela
He is a Professor (PhD) at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His research deals with prevention of problematic behaviour in teenagers and with the evaluation of intervention programmes. For his doctoral thesis he evaluated and adapted the Life Skills Training (Botvin, 1984) to the Spanish context. Since then he has participated in several studies focused on evaluating and spreading this programme, called “Construyendo Salud”. He has also taken part in different research projects on the development and evaluation of prevention programmes aimed at families and risk groups. Currently, he is the main researcher of a project that analyzes the abusive use of alcohol during weekends and preventive programmes based on alternative leisure time activities.

Paula Villar Torres
She is Professor and researcher of the Department for Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology of the University of Santiago de Compostela. She is member of the research group leaded by Prof. Luengo, in which she takes charge of the implementation and evaluation of intervention programmes aimed at preventing behaviour problems in children and teenagers. She is especially trained and experienced in the field of school and family prevention. Thanks to her research work she gained a deep insight into the issues her group is currently researching and had the opportunity of publishing some important discoveries in this field.
